At Apple Tree State High School, we are constantly looking at ways to provide students in their senior phase of learning with positive pathways to help them successfully transition from high school into their future career.
The transition from secondary education into ‘life after school’ can be overwhelming. That’s why we are committed to finding new ways to prepare our students for successful and fulfilling careers after graduation.
Our curriculum, as such, is structured to engage students in a course of study with a strong academic core as well as a vocational focus. In addition, we have a pathway program to assist students in discovering a wide range of options based on their interest, aspirations as well as their strengths.
The key student pathways are:
• Tertiary pathway [Authority (OP) subjects required]
• TAFE Diploma/ Training pathway [OP & non-OP]
• Apprenticeship / Traineeship pathway [Vocational Education Training (VET)]
• Full-time Work Pathway [Vocational Education Training (VET)]
In order to optimize our students’ chances for success, we have the support of teaching staff, curriculum, and resources for each pathway.
In addition, students can pursue a range of extra–curricular courses or training, with our flexible timetable.
Choosing career options
Our school guidance officers work with our students to help them get to know themselves and then match their interests, aspirations, and skills with options for study and work. In addition to helping students with their study program, they can assist in choosing subjects as well as provide strategies to improve study skills, time management as well as for exam preparation. They can also help with applications for tertiary study.
For students interested the vocational pathways, our guidance officers can help them with job, traineeship and apprenticeship applications.
Students can take steps such as listing their goals, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, interests and passions, and careers that interest them. The following links can help your child explore and find out more about these specifically for them.
