Hi! I’m Mel Lathouras. I’m a professional jazz singer and CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music) singing teacher.
I have a Bachelor of Music, Masters’ of Music in Jazz Performance, a Graduate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy and a Graduate Diploma of Education.
I regularly attend professional development workshops, courses and events related to music, vocal science, business and mindset for the purpose of up skilling and staying on top of all of the latest research.
I am a massive fan of Jeannie LoVetri’s work and undertook her Somatic Voicework Course, obtaining Levels 1, 2 & 3 in 2017.
Most importantly, I’m a passionate teacher who loves being a part of somebody’s singing journey and seeing these big hearted souls create magic with their voices and in their lives.

Where do you teach from?
I teach from my home studio in the heart of West End, Brisbane. The address will be supplied to you once you book in.
What level do I need to be in order to start singing lessons?
I teach absolute beginners to professionals. I specialise in helping people overcome their fear of singing in front of other people (and themselves) or helping the professional singer manage their voice and reach their next level of performance.
What age do I need to be to start singing?
At this stage, I teach students as young as eight-years old, with a focus on building musicality.
There is no upper age limit however. You are definitely not too old to start or restart singing. Or even to perform at a professional level. Please read this article I wrote for inspiration => You’re Ageless Start Living Your Dreams
Can anyone learn how to sing?
Yes! I believe anyone can learn to sing. If you have ever referred to yourself as tone deaf, please read this article => Why You’re Most Likely NOT Tone deaf.
What does a lesson include?
My lessons are structured to include vocal technique, mindset and song work.
Students also have access to backing tracks, a mic/PA, keyboard and guitars.
How much do you charge?
The initial lesson is $135 for one-hour + exclusive access to online singing exercises and resources. After that, you will have access to links to book in as you go. You can choose to come for 1hr - $95, 45min - $75, 30min - $52. To reach your goals faster, you can also purchase lesson packages. Do I need to come weekly?
For best results, it’s ideal to come weekly. However, I understand that we live busy lives. You can book in weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Do you offer other coaching?
I offer business and mindset coaching specifically for singing/instrumental teachers and performer.
The principles I teach can help any creative build a business in teaching or performing.
Do you have a cancellation policy? What happens if I turn up late?
My time is valuable, and so is yours, if you are late for your appointment, you lose that time. If you don’t show you will forfeit your fee.
24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a lesson.
I advise students to contact me the day before if they are feeling unwell, to avoid forfeiting their fee.
If adequate notice is given however, I allow for one make up lesson at another time.
Do you offer discounts?
I reward students for their regular attendance. If a student comes for 10 lessons over a term (10 weeks), they will receive a complimentary lesson.
Can I purchase lesson vouchers to give as gifts?
Yes – you can purchase these in my shop. They can be used over a 12-month period. Please note that the 24-hour cancellation policy still applies. If you wish to purchase more than three lessons, please contact me.
Do you offer refunds?
No refunds will be issued however lessons can be transferred to another person.
